The sciatic nerve begins in the lower back and travels down into the leg were it becomes one long thick nerve. Sciatic pain symptoms may be expressed by pain, numbness and/or tingling in the leg and the foot. The sciatic nerve passes by the piriformis muscle which is located in the buttocks. It is a notoriously tight muscle which can affect the sciatic nerve as well, in fact in 20% of the population the sciatic nerve actually will pierce this muscle.
We treat sciatic pain by adjusting the spine and pelvis and relaxing and strengthening the soft tissue surrounding the nerve. Unlocking and aligning the skeletal structure has dramatic effects on the sciatic symptoms.
