Many people have slips and falls in restaurants, movie theatres, sidewalks, apartment complexes. Injuries sustained in a slip and fall can mirror those of a motor vehicle accident. Compression forces on the neck, back, upper and lower extremities can be severe.
A slip and fall accident can cause a myriad of injuries depending on how you fall and the way you land. The body will automatically try to brace your fall usually in attempt to protect your head and this can cause problems in all other areas. For example, if you fall to the side your elbow may catch your fall which could cause problems in your upper back, shoulder, and neck. If you fall on your hip you will probably fall with more weight on one hip than the other which can lock the hip and cause imbalances in the spine and lower back. Additionally, many slip and falls cause whiplash(see auto injury).
When muscles, tendons, and disks are stretched or ripped from a trauma the body still has to perform its every day functions such as taking care of the kids, cooking, cleaning, driving, and working. When the body is injured it makes everything else that much harder to carry out. The majority of the body’s energy is spent on trying to get you from point A to point B and being injured. Fatigue, in addition to lack of appetite and insomnia are all common side effects that are seen when a body is injured.
